which may be rendered necessary to the instruments, etc. at present in use by such proposals, stating whether they could be adapted for use under the altered conditions suggested, or whether they

would be rendered useless thereby. An amended indent of the stores required should also be forwarded with the report.

5. The attention of the Crom Agente should be drawn to

the fact that, although a Central Exchange and underground cables

are being arranged for as regards the greater portion of Hongkong, it is not intended, at least for the present, similarly to supersede

the aerial lines throughout Kowloon and New Territory.

6. The existing connections to the Chief Mainland Exchange

at Kowloon Point through the submarine cable across the Harbour

would therefore contime as at present, but the question as to the

advisability of installing a similar Automatic Exchange System at

this Kowloon Point Exchange at some future date might, subject to

its installation at the Central Exchange being favourably reported on, be dealt with as a subsidiary portion of the report as should also the desirability of further installing such system in the scattered small sub-exchanges at the Police Stations throughout

New Territory.

Mr. Stevenson, the Goverment Electrician, who is now in England on leave, could, on being instructed to do so, call and give the Crom Agents all necessary information with respect

to local details which may not be sufficiently clear in the reports and plans already forwarded to the Crow Agents.
